RARE KAINGIN ORGANIC BLACK RICE. We are found a limited amount of GALO RICE, it’s a prized black rice that is quite elusive to find. We are living in the heart of the country’s rice bowl and yet we could not find it. Talk about your quarry coming to you, this is exactly what we were looking for. Rare.
Galo Rice is grown in unirrigated kaingin (slash-and-burn) plots on remote mountainsides, which accounts for the black color. The rocky mountain soil is not plowed but poked with a stick, and the Galo grows alongside natural vegetation, which accounts for the pandan-y smell when you cook it.
This particular Galo came from Bantog, in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija.
