SARIAYA CORNUCOPIA. We’ve been doing a series of Cornucopias from different places, a bagful of the most exotic fruits and vegetables we can find in a locale. I think you remember the last three — the Cordillera Cornucopia, the Guimaras Cornucopia and the Manabu Cornucopia. Those were wonderful. Next up, the SARIAYA CORNUCOPIA from the town of Sariaya, Quezon. And the most exotic things the farmers and gatherers can give us from there at this time are MACAPUNO, MANZANITAS and whole LABONG. This is where we got the Labongs a few years ago.

LABONGS FOR PEACE. These LABONG comes from farmers living in Brgy. Gibanga, Sariaya, Quezon. They have 100 pieces to sell and we have committed to get the

m all for the price they want. As you know, this area has been the battleground between communist rebels and the military for decades. Caught in the middle are civilians, especially farmers like these. Surely this is one of the reasons why rural prosperity is elusive in these places. For the farmers of Gibanga to be able to sell their Labong, it will help them a lot. For you you to buy from them, while it may not contribute to peace, it will give them a peaceful income. We call this effort “Labongs for Peace”. Who does not want Labongs, who does not want peace? We’re going to get the Labongs whole and leave you to do what you want with them. Here in NCR, labongs are bought sliced (“nagayat na”). You will be surprised at how big the Labongs are, and how it could be a fun family activity. This is how big they get, and these are our grateful Sariaya farmers.

SAYA PARA SARIAYA. In the middle of the Tomato Rescue effort, we are receiving pleas for help from the MACAPUNO farmers of Sariaya, Quezon. Freshly-harvested, 1,000 kilos available, and they cannot find bulk buyers. This has never happened to them before. Macapuno retails for P100 per piece. We said we shall try to help them.
