RARE LEMONS GROWN BY AN EX-HELICOPTER PILOT. So what we have here are LISBON LEMONS. We have a (very) small stock arriving. We shall bring them to Manila this weekend. Only one farmer grows them and we are happy take most of his harvest. This is not your ordinary chemically-laden, China import lemon. This is an old-fashioned, all-natural lemon that packs a sharp tartness, the way a real lemon would. If your grandmother had a green thumb like mine, you would know these Lisbon lemons from your childhood. If you have never seen or tasted lemons like these, you will like it. Makes an extraordinarily refreshing lemonade.
The farmer that grew these lemons is also a rare one. He graduated from the PMA in 1978 and served as an officer and helicopter pilot in the Philippine Air Force. Upon retirement, he planted these Lisbon lemons sourced from a German family living in Surigao. Amazing individual, isn’t he? Read about his lemons in his own words. “Chinese lemons are picked at a uniform size to fit a box containing 135 fruits at 15kg they aren’t matured enough as evidenced by its thick peel . They are immersed in degreening chemical at a very low temperature. So halos Wala ka nang ma squeeze na juice. Ang Pinoy consumer judgemental na lang sa quality ng skin. Compared sa lemon na grown dito sila ay mas juicy at masarap kasi seedless at thin skinned kung ibabad mo sa glass of water hindi pumapait until maubos. At guaranteed na poison free kasi di ginamitan ng pesticides and fungicide.”
SNAP BUY: LISBON LEMONS. One bag with 3.5 kilos, pay only PHP500.
